We also have their resources at our disposal to draw from as far as technical information is concerned. See further details in the 'Links' section.

gilloolys12Each of the four branches countrywide has their own calendar of events planned for the year. This includes technical meetings and seminars where information is disseminated amongst the members. The topics vary and depend on the availability of speakers on their subjects. Where there are projects of interest that are in progress, they usually manage to arrange site visits. This is well supported since it enables members to see concrete in action. In terms of the agreements between ECSA and other international engineering bodies, South African registered professionals will be obliged to keep abreast of developments and knowledge in their fields of expertise, in order to maintain and demonstrate their competence. All ECSA registered persons are required to undertake and record CPD activities as a prerequisite to renewal of their professional registration. CPD runs in five year cycles, during which period every registered person is required to accumulate 25 credits to retain registration. In any one year, the registered person is required to accumulate three credits. Additional credits earned in any one year may be carried over to the subsequent years in the five year cycle.

audienceRegistered persons are required to record their CPD activities annually, either manually on form ECPD, or electronically on the CPD website www.ecsa.co.za, no later than 30 days after the completion of their annual cycle. All CPD credits are electronically recorded and professionals may access their personal records from the ECSA website. In view of the possibility of being audited, registered persons should keep verifiable evidence of all their CPD actitivites for at least five years.

Each full day or ten hours spent on an approved course will be credited with one credit. In terms of the ECSA CPD policy document, providers not recognised by ECSA have to apply to be a recognised voluntary association for validation of the course.

logo_colourAll CSSA meetings and seminars have been granted CPD approval by ECSA. Each approved event will be assigned a unique CPD

identification number (which will be printed on the attendance certificate) which the registered professional must cite when

claiming CPD credits annually. The Society will keep a record of each delegate's attendance and this information will be relayed

to the National Learner Record Database.

Members of the Concrete Society who are registered professionals with ECSA, receive a 'partial exemption' from annual fees payable for their registration.

pace 2009While we endeavour to provide a forum for sharing knowledge, we also enjoy a wide variety of social events. This can range from the concrete canoe race, held annually, to action cricket and golf days.

The concrete cube competition is mainly supported by students and is very competitive, judging by the number of entries which grow steadily each year. Golf days and year-end functions are also held and provide ample time for social interaction and networking amongst members and visitors. Click here to see upcoming Branch Meetings / Events.

The prestigious Fulton Awards are held every second year. These awards, in different categories, honour excellence in the concrete construction industry and have a long history of involvement in many major projects completed in South Africa and also in southern Africa. It is indeed one of the highlights in our calendar to present this coveted award at the gala function. It also gives recognition to the cement industry that help fund this event through the Cement and Concrete Institute, and to the construction industry for excellence in their work. On a branch level there is also the annual Concrete Achiever Award and Chairman's Award which is presented to the individual or team of a particular project worthy of recognition. Click here for more details on the 2013 Fulton Awards.
