Inland Branch Chairman's Breakfast

Nearly 80 members and their guests attended the above function which feature a presentation by environmental scientist and 'weatherman' Simon Gear and also the awarding of the Inland Branch Chairman's Award for 2010.

Proceedings began with the National President of the Concrete Society, John Sheath, congratulating local Chairman, Armand van Vuuren and his committee on running a very successful year. The Concrete Society as a whole, he continued, had increased membership during a very difficult year, and National Council had acted upon the strategy set early in 2010 of recruiting a fulltime Chief Executive Officer for the organisation.

John Sheath went on to explain that he was relinguishing his honoray position as National President as at 31st December 2010 and taking up the appointment of CEO of the Society from the 1st January 2011

He also urged those present to put forward any concrete-related projects for the Fulton Awards which will be judged and awarded in 2011. Nominations will be accepted by Head Office up the end of November 2010.

After breakfast, Simon Gear presented his thoughts and ideas on the sensitive and often misunderstood topic of Environmental Awareness. An excellent talk, presented by a true professional which had the whole audience riveted to their seats.

The highlight of the morning was the presentation of the Inland Branch Chairman's Award to a man recognised as a 'legend' in the concrete industry - Eddie Correia of Chryso SA.

The Chairman read testimonials from a colleague, a competitor and a customer all of which leaving no doubt he was a very worthy recipient of this award. Pictured here is Eddie Correia (r) receiving his award from Chairman, Armand Vuuren.
