Inland Branch - Essentials for Successful Concreting Seminar
More than 60 delegates from the Bloemfontein area attended a recent seminar organised by the Inland Branch of the Society. Entitled ‘Essentials for Successful Concreting’, it featured presentations by industry experts on current cement and concrete specifications (presented by Bryan Perrie of The Concrete Institute), critical issues when testing concrete (by Johan van Wyk of SARMA) and factors that influence the testing of concrete (presented by George Evans from PPC Cement).
Great interest was shown by delegates in the content of the seminar, as was demonstrated by the lengthy question and answer time at the end of the proceedings.
The presentations were preceded by a talk from John Sheath the CEO of the Concrete Society who described to delegates the activities of the organisation and the benefits that accrue to those who join as members. He also appealed for names of anyone that might be interested in setting up a ‘Free State’ section on the Concrete Society as there appears to be a lot of interest in the area for the type of services it can offer.
In thanking those that attended, the Inland Branch Chairman, Andrew Schmidt said future events of this nature would be considered for the region on a more regular basis and assured the audience that the quality of content and speaker would be maintained.
In closing, he also thanked the Main sponsor of the event – AfriSam, as well as other sponsors who had provided support for the seminar, namely: BASF, Chryso, Lafarge, PPC, SIKA, Stoncor, SARMA
