First Concrete Quiz Night a huge success

The Inland Branch held its inaugural Concrete Quiz Night at the end of October and, with more than 100 members and guests attending, it turned out to be a huge success. The event was held at the Rockwood Theatre, Parkview in Pretoria, which proved to be a perfect venue for this type of occasion.

The vibe was ‘electric’ right from the start with participants giving each other a hard time, even before the competition began. There was a total of 12 teams of four, and each was asked to provide an appropriate team name, for which a prize would be awarded for the best.

The categories were five-fold, with 10 questions in each:

  • General
  • Multiple
  • Choice Rapid Fire
  • Identify Photos
  • True or false

Teams were able to ‘buy’ answers by donating R100, with the proceeds being donated to Gemeenskap Sentrum Childrens’ Home in Doornpoort. R1,000 was collected. The Concrete Society President, Hanlie Turner, who was also in attendance, ‘bought’ the first answer to help all the teams along. The question was ‘Which man has won the most Oscars?” (Walt Disney – 22).

Answer sheets were handed in after each category was finished, and committee members managed the scores as well as acting as referees on the night. There was a good mix of questions and lots of exposure for the Society and concrete in general.

Good fun was had by all and the networking and transfer of knowledge were key outcomes from the event.

Proceedings were officially closed by the President and in doing so, she congratulated the Inland Branch team for organising such a unique and well-organised event. She also thanked Marike van Wyk from Head Office who was the ‘brainchild’ of the Concrete Quiz Night.
