Honour bestowed on CSSA’s National Treasurer

Nick vd Berg (CSSA President) and Garth Gamble (awarded Honorary Life Member)

KwaZulu-Natal Branch member and National Treasurer of the Concrete Society, Garth Gamble, has been awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Society.

This honour was bestowed on Garth at a recent cocktail party held in Durban, by the CSSA National President, Nick van den Berg, who cited the motivation provided by 26 members of the branch in support of Garth’s nomination.  The motivation was in recognition of his long and distinguished service to the Branch as a committee member and the Society nationally as Council Member, but especially in respect of his devotion and diligence in the positions of Branch and National Treasurer.

Garth has been involved with CSSA since April 1982 when he was co-opted onto the local Committee.   Garth was impressed with what he saw and joined immediately with his membership certificate reflecting the date 17 June 1982.

By 1986 he had risen to the position of Branch Chair and ex-officio Council Member. In 1994 he became KZN Branch Treasurer, a position which he still holds 17 years later!

Garth was elected to Council in 1999 for the period to 2002.  However by 2002 his financial expertise and diligence had been recognised nationally to the extent that he was elected National Treasurer. He has served Council since then as National Treasurer and continues to do date - a period of 9 years.

There can be few who manage to operate a highly successful one-man consultancy business and serve voluntarily at Branch and National level at this high level.

At Branch level Garth has acted as the “rock” providing stability and continuity.  He has over the years driven the “Concrete Achiever Award” and the “Golf Day” almost single-handedly and is the main reason for the continuous excellent financial status of the Branch.

At national level Garth has shown not only monetary caution, but foresight and motivation when needed in the darkest hours of the Society, and the current emergence of the Society as a major player, is to a large extent thanks to the hours of voluntary hard work put in by Garth.

Hearty congratulations to Garth Gamble on achieving this well-deserved status!
