|Outgoing President, Hanle Turner hands over the offical Chain of Office to Professor Mark Alexander|
Mark Alexander, Professor Emeritus, University of Cape Town (UCT has been inaugurated as National President of the Concrete Society of Southern Africa NPC. Handing over the presidential Chain of Office to Prof Alexander, the outgoing President, Mrs Hanlie Turner (PPC), said she was delighted to be handing over to “a visionary concrete disciple”
Prof Alexander is a registered Professional Engineer in South Africa and is active in international scientific circles and publishes regularly in local and international journals. He is currently the editor of the 10th edition of Fulton’s Concrete Technology revision which will be published next year.
He is the outgoing President of RILEM, a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering, the South African Academy of Engineers, and the University of Cape Town. He is also a Past President of the Concrete Society (1995) and has served on what was then the National Council for many years. He is one of only 5 Honorary Life Members of the Society.
Introducing Mark to the audience, Hanlie referred to an event In November 2016 when delegates from all 5 continents gathered at Mark's beloved Kirstenbosch Gardens in Cape Town to pay tribute to him, and the words that were repeatedly mentioned were humility, leader, integrity, role model, scientist, researcher, pillar of strength, man of faith, and the one that resonates with all of us at the Society -, concrete enthusiast.
