Inland Branch Inaugural Golf Day 2015

The Inland Branch held its first golf day recently at the Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate in Midrand. More than 80 players teed off from a shotgun start at this Gary Player-designed course.

The day was designed to be a fun occasion, and to help it along, there were two special features available for the players to enjoy.

Firstly, there was the ‘Catapult’ ball launcher, which is a novel new aspect that offers the golfers a massively fun and entertaining on-course activity that does not hold up play. It is extremely accurate and offers the golfer a better result than if he/she actually hits a shot with a club. Also, they just can’t resist having a shot with the giant ‘kettie’. This popular feature was sponsored by AfriSam on the day.

Secondly, there was the ‘Swing Analyzer’, sponsored by Ash Resources. There is nothing more precise and helpful than a full analysis about the swing you just took. Golfers can use an analyzer to get real-time information. These handy devices show you speed, path, face angle, and much more. You can then use this information to manipulate your physical movements. The players learnt a lot about their swing with this device and were seen huddled around the PC screen to obtain their specific data.

The golf was followed by a short interlude of networking and liquid refreshment, and then the players assembled for dinner (kindly sponsored by PPC) and the prize-giving. Vice-Chair, Johan van Wyk announced the prize winners and the final results were:

  • Winning team – AfriSam 2 comprising Randal, Aben, Duncan and Nico
  • 2nd Place – PPC 1 comprising Mark Andre, Johan and Warren
  • 3rd Place – PPC 3 comprising Rajesh, Henk, Bryan and Monique
  • Longest Day prize went to Chryso 2 team comprising Andries, Jason and Trevor
  • Longest drive went to Derek Fourie
  • Closet to the Pin – Dean Fogolin
In closing proceedings, Roelof Jacobs, Branch Chair, stated that judging by all the positive feedback comments that had been received, there was little doubt that the Inland Branch Golf Day will now be an annual event, albeit earlier in the year.
