Site Visit - New Warehouse for RTT
Nearly 50 Inland Branch members attended a site visit to the new warehouse being constructed for RTT, where a 15,000 m2, post-tensioned, jointless concrete surface bed was under construction.
In welcoming everybody to the event, Hanlie Turner, Inland branch Chair thanked the team of PT-Pave for making it possible to visit the site and for sharing the technical aspects of this technology with the members.
While this method of constructing floors is relatively new to South Africa, it has been extensively and successfully applied in many countries around the world. Chris Howes Construction SA and Amsteele Systems have forged a joint venture to offer the market a cost effective Post Tensioning solution, including design, for floors on grade and formed a new company, PT-Pave.
Short presentations were given by Paul Heymans from Amsteele Systems; Steve Sotiralis of Sotiralis Civil Engineers and Chris Howes from Chris Howes Construction. It became evident that the success of a project of this nature is heavily reliant on the care taken during the planning phases.
Members then witnessed the pumping of the concrete into position, vibration of the mix to consolidate and remove air, and then levelling of the floor with a laser screed machine.
Refreshments were kindly supplied by Métier Mixed Concrete.
