Inland Branch Concrete Quiz Night

The Inland Branch once again held their popular Concrete Quiz Night at the Musiekskuur, Rockwood Theatre, Pretoria. There were eight teams of four contestants each, comprising consulting engineers, laboratory specialists, technical specialists and university students (sponsored by TCI and Jannes Bester from UJ). All were concrete lovers who battled it out, answering questions based on content from the Concrete Society website (, Fulton’s Concrete Technology Edition 9 with the rest being general knowledge.

The categories were five-fold, with ten questions in each:

  • General
  • Multiple Choice
  • Rapid Fire
  • Identify the Project
  • True or false

It was a tough quiz, received with loads of frowns, debates and laughs. Ultimately only one winner could be crowned “Concrete Quiz Whiz 2018”. Answer sheets were handed in after each category was finished, and committee members managed the scores as well as acting as referees on the night. There was a good mix of questions and lots of exposure for the Society and concrete in general.

The second place went to the GO’sts from Go Consult followed by The Concrete Creepers from UP, in third. Good fun was had by all and the networking and transfer of knowledge were key outcomes from the event. A huge thank you goes out to the participants, Johan van Wyk (Inland Branch Chairperson and Quiz Master), the Inland Branch Committee, CSSA Head Office and volunteers and the Rockwood Theatre staff for making this exciting event possible. Be on the look-out for the 2019 event.
